:: Rohff / Au-delà de mes limites

With already his second double (!) album in little over a year Rohff seems to have spent most of his time in the studio for the past two years. With Rohff probably being one of the more American orientated rappers in Europe, he promised fans collaborations with several American producers after connecting with D12's Denaun Porter (Kon Artis) on "94".

On "Au-delà de mes limites" found Havoc and LT Moe for some intercontinental collaborations. Havoc, of course, being one half of the infamous Mobb Deep, and the up and coming LT Moe (Ludacris, Stat Quo) provide Rohff with some of the nicer productions on this album, altough Sayd des Mureux (Expression Direkt, 3ème Oeil, Diam's, Kery James, Carré Rouge, SAT and others) should see his name pop up a lot more often after the release of this album.

The first disc shoots out the starting blocks with great tracks like the Jasmin Lopez (Snoop's "Bang Out") assisted "Dis Mon Nom" or "La Puissance", already released as a single. "Jespere Que", "Tout Se Paye" and "Personne" are true to Rohff's past catalogue, altough the Vitry based MC strays away from these quality tracks with weaker Crunk influenced tracks like "Le Pouvoir" and "Bonhomme".

The slight concerns should get evened out by strong efforts on the tight "Bol Dair", with Vitaa and again featuring Jasmin Lopez, "Le Temps Passe" and "Starfukeuze", the latter however reminds a lot of Fat Joe's "Lean Back" productionwise.

The second half of the album starts suffering from the amount of tracks featured on the album, with tracks like "Seul Contre Tous", "En Mode 2", "Bonne Journee", "Le Club Des Métaphores" and "Accepte Moi Comme Je Suis" not fitting the bill. "Trop Dangereux" with the Daim's assisted hook and "Enculé De Ton Clash" do however are quality tracks.

The album essentially suffers overkill. 31 tracks is just too much, as often evidenced by other double albums. Would Rohff have cut down on the ammount and selected about 17 or 18 tracks for a single album, this album would have been one of the best recent releases. Now, it's a good album with some very good tracks and some tracks which lower the overall quality.
