In 2005 the duo of L'Skadrille toured France with the Independance Tour, a tour featuring several independent groups and talents. With the die-hard hip hop fans in France the group has been known for several years though.
Ever since 1997, when 13Or (St. Cyr) and 16Art (Falguère) crashed onto the scene with "Le Rêve" on a DJ Enuff compilation, the group has been releasing critically acclaimed mixtapes and has never ceased to impress through their guest spots.
In 2001 the group released "Dangereux", their first streetalbum/mixtape, and followed those with the classic streetalbum "Extazik" three years later. Let's just get to the point right away; "Nos Vies" is truly a great album. The featurings by Sinik, Tandem, Sniper, Jimmy Sissoko, Medeline, Tecnik, Pone, Gand Du Lyonnais and Endo should convice those who are not familiair with L'Skadrille, but the group totally outshines their collegues, expect on the great track (and first single) "Bons Moments", which features Sniper. The two groups go head to head on a very positive track, accompanied by a nice video.
This same vibe can be found throughout the entire album. With both 16 and 13 being blessed lyricists, the album brings both thoughtful lyrics and great production to the table. "Son de l’Indépendance" is a insightful track which features heavywight counterparts Tandem and Sinik, and "Quand j'en ai marre de mentir" offers another impressive track on which the duo exchange honest and true to live hip hop.
"Nos Vies" kind of came out of nowhere to hit the sleepers in the head. Although we were looking forward to the release we were pleasently suprised by what might very well still be among the best albums of 2006 when it's all said and done.
