With the release of "La Nocturne de Skyrock Volume 1", the radio show on the infamous French Radio station Skyrock drops it's first compilation album. La Nocturne has been one of the most popular shows on the station since day one, nine years ago this season.
The disc features some of the most anticipated talents Fred, the DJ of the show, invited to the studio the past year. With names like Tandem, Sinik, Rohff, Ol Kainry & Dany Dan, Kery James, Psy 4 De La Rime and Monsieur R, the show proves to be highly credible and respected in the scene.
Altough most songs have already been released on official albums or streettapes of the featured artists, some of these songs were premiered on the weekly show. With so many large market names included the balance on the CD seems to be somewhat off, looking at how most of the well known artists are featured on the first half.
It comes as a pleasant surprise however, to hear Youssoupha totally blast by any other artist featured on the album. On "Éternel Recommencement" ("Eternal loop") the young MC from Kinshasa (Congo), now repping Cergy, raps:
The track, 6.11 minutes of pure spitting, no hooks and no bars, is a pure display of MC-ing by definately one of the better up and coming lyricists of the French Hip Hop scene. A few lines on he spits pure fire with:
This track proves to be one of the better highlights on the compilation. Youssoupha opens the clearly better half of the album, followed by Prince D'Arabee with "J'ai Épousé La Rue", a very tightly produced track with great lyrics. Other great tracks following the afore mentioned are Keny Arkana's "J'ai Épousé La Rue" and "Unité 2 Feu" by Légitime Défonce.
All in all the album is a great compilation with probably lesser known and younger artists out-perfroming the veterans by an inch, altough it's a tad dissapointing many of the tracks have been released on other albums before.
