While DJ Cut Killer already had the idea of re-releasing some of his classic mixtapes in 2005, the recent succes of Ali and Booba has fans asking for another re-release of the classic 1994 Lunatic Mixtape.
Label Rouge has answered the requests by making the tape newly available on CD once again.
The mixtape features mostly American artists but also offfers several must-have tracks by Lunatic. With the legendary duo being new to the scene back then it's nice to hear how they have both evolved.
With the intro Lunatic were put onto the national map by Cut Killer, and the duo haven't let go of their grip ever since, with only both of them evolving in different directions since a couple of years.
Ali has stayed true to their original sound, while Booba has chosen another route and currently enjoys a broader and commercial appeal compared to Ali. Ali meanwhile still has a broad following of fans who respect him for his continuation of the Lunatic vibe, while still sounding up to date with his 2005 release "Chaos & Harmonie".
Although the mixtape, unlike other tapes, won't offer you any new and unreleased tracks, it is a great piece of history which offers the newer fans a chance to get to know the old Booba and Ali. It also offers the older fans a chance to get a digital version of their old, and probably worn out, casette. Either way, Cut Killer's Lunatic Mixtape should be included in any collection.
